Monday Musings - Cupboard Love

One of the (many, many) things that I love is a big glass fronted cupboard filled with crockery and glassware.

Everything is there, clearly displayed, just waiting to be used.....

...for entertaining or everyday use.

You have to be a bit disciplined about the way you arrange it....

...if it's too haphazard, it just looks messy...

...but there is a danger of over-styling it too.

The look to go for is "smart casual", if you now what I mean.

Uniformity of colour works best, in my opinion...

....although a little injection of colour or texture, like the wicker used below, makes things interesting.

Did you know "cupboard love" is a phrase referring to affection that is given purely to gain a reward.
The term derives from the way in which a  cat will give a cupboard containing its food superficial "love"  when it wants to be fed. The phrase is most often applied to human activity, for example when a child will say "I love you so much" before or after requesting a treat, for example an ice cream. My children never do that!!

Monday Musings - Symmetry and Sequence

There is something very pleasing to the eye about symmetry and sequence. Things that follow a pattern of some sort, or are placed in an orderly way are more calming than haphazard or random placement. I think I have a mind that craves order - maybe it's because my world often feels slightly chaotic.

A row of perfectly positioned arches...

... matching lanterns or lights hanging in perfect intervals...

... rows of identical chairs...

.... symmetry and sequence in the garden...

... or anywhere else...

...it all somehow sets my mind at rest.

Wishing you a peaceful week.

Till next time

Monday Musings - Perfect Potted Plants

Well, we had another visit to the hospital emergency dept this weekend when Ross, our 13 year old son, managed to break 3 bones in his foot. We put him to bed with his newly fitted fracture boot and his phone next to him with instructions to phone if he couldn't sleep or was uncomfortable, as his room is quite far from ours. I lost count of the number of times he phoned last night! So I am not going to add any commentary to this post because I am too tired to really think of anything to say, other than I wish I had greener fingers!

Have a good week.

Till next time.
