An Ode to Oval

I have a rectangular dining table which I love, but I am starting to think that an oval shaped table would be my choice if I was in the market for a new one. It really is a very practical shape. It can have the capacity of a large rectangular table, with the flexibility and conviviality of a circular table.  It is easily possible to seat 2 or 3 people around either end if you have a larger crowd without it feeling too cramped. Here are some oval shaped tables in pretty dining room settings that appeal to me and hopefully to you.

Till next time

  1. I loved looking through these photos! I just finished painting my Breakfast Room table and I used one of these photos as inspiration! Great minds think alike! LOL!
Perhaps you can use two matching demilune console tables to place on either end when you have guests and store them flanking a window when not in use?

  4. These are gorgeous Sharon and I agree. It does allow for a cozier feel .. and an easier flow for conversation. I have a long table with round edges ~ oblong.. an sometimes I feel like I'm miles away from the person at the other end of the table.

I think I would like one of each!

  5. Lindas mesas. Eu também quero uma mesa assim. Uma ótima dica para sala de churrasco.
    Tenha um ótimo dia.

  6. I have a round antique pedestal table that extends to an oval -- the perfect table, in my opinion. I love your choices, especially the ones that mix rough with luxe.

  8. Sharon,
These are some of the prettiest dining rooms I've ever seen. I have a friend with an oval dining table and her only complaint is finding linens...I guess (she says) ovals are much harder to find than rectangular. It would be a crime to cover some of the tables in this post with a table cloth so maybe you'd be okay.
