A Pale Palette

I really, really do love furniture upholstered in paler colours... off-white, cream, the palest shades of blue, grey or sage... I have tried not to.... 4 sons and 2 dogs... you understand.... it isn't a particularly happy combination....but I can't help it.

I can't really show you my own pale upholstery .... 4 sons, 2 dogs... you understand... but I will show you some of my favourite examples. Enjoy!

Crinkled, wrinkled and comfortable - just the way I like it!

It works just as well in winter...

...as in summer.

It mixes well with patterns...

...and with leather.

So pretty!

So gorgeous!

So exquisite!

So sublime!

So .... I can't think of any more superlatives.

Wishing you all a happy week.

Till next time

Sharon x

  1. Hi Sharon...A big YES! I love this look too and am in the process of bringing that lightness into our home. For so long, I had loved saturated colours, but am looking forward to living with soft sage, blush and blue. Beautiful post:) I am sure that your home is perfect as reflected with your 4 boys and 2 dogs;)xo

  3. I love it the same as you. My eyes are jarred by too many different colors in a room, it just feels un-cohesive to me.

  4. Sharon,
LOL. Yes, I remember those days (2 sons & 2 dogs). I'm now trying to convert our family room into a more neutral space. I'm waiting for the sofa to NEED to be reupholstered.
    Lovely images.

  7. I'm with you Sharon. I have all white sofas, despite having two small children and cats inside. I just couldn't go dark! Beautiful images. Rachael x

  8. Well, Sharon, nothing can beat natural tones in the house, just timeless. Lovely images, indeed!

The "solution" for you, the two boys and dogs: I would suggest loose covers (slip covers)made of old linen or hemp for example. Easy to wash them in high temperature in the washing machine :) Or - and - lots of cushions in natural colors.

  11. Sharon I have to be honest when I come into your post the first thing I do is hit pinterest since I know I'll be pinning your images. You always pick the most beautiful pictures that talk to me and this was no different.

  12. Sharon,

I can't think of any more superlatives either! Just gorgeous. I share you love for the neutrals, along with the kids.. and dogs. It doesn't matter (that worn in look with a little patina is the look we are going for right?;)

  15. Yes, I agree with everyone as I always say the same thing--you pick the most amazing examples! I am exactly on the same page with you here and since I couldn't afford to get my two living room chairs recovered, I bought a very inexpensive cotton muslin at our outdoor market and made covers myself! :)
Especially happy to see the lovely Greet Lefevre's Orangerie here (photo #3)...

I have a "crazy" dog as you know, husband who is always doing projects, and a dirty gardener (me), I have the same problemS. Sure love your images though! While you were travelling Beau did a little post and included Baxter and Blossom!

  17. I love a pale interior too--at our beach house in Southamppton I've slipcovered as much as I can in soft linen and cotton blend--when the dog or kids make a mess (and they do!) I just put them into the wash and keep my fingers crossed!

I have pale upholstery and with seven pets I am always holding a lint roller and/or vinegar! LOL! It is worth it!

  24. Soooo pretty...but I absolutely must do a post on slipcovers. They will change your life. Still a hassle to wash...but you feel great when they are clean for a few days.
