Winning Window Seats

There is something about a window seat that conjures up images of lazy afternoons, good books, sitting doing nothing except gazing at the view, perhaps a nap in the sun, or curled up with a blanket while rain beats against the window. It sort of gives you permission to be a couch potato without actually being a couch potato!

I love the symmetry and the neutral colours.

Adds interest to a small window.

Pretty and feminine.

So inviting!

I love this idea for a beach house.

Lovely shades of grey. I might even start knitting too if I had a spot like this.

Works so well in a kitchen - a space for a friendly chat and cup of tea.

A clever way of accommodating a number of people in a small space.

This is not really a window seat, but a bed placed in the window alcove works just as well. 

What a lovely spot to recline.

Rustic Dining

There is something so appealing about a rustic dining table.  Whether it is scrubbed pine, a chippy painted surface, an old trestle table, weathered wood worn from years of use or a table made from old floorboards or scaffold planks, it just looks so inviting to me and is the perfect surface for serving good, wholesome, rustic food! Look at these lovely examples which I've interspersed with some divine looking food just to whet your appetites!

An Ode to Oval

I have a rectangular dining table which I love, but I am starting to think that an oval shaped table would be my choice if I was in the market for a new one. It really is a very practical shape. It can have the capacity of a large rectangular table, with the flexibility and conviviality of a circular table.  It is easily possible to seat 2 or 3 people around either end if you have a larger crowd without it feeling too cramped. Here are some oval shaped tables in pretty dining room settings that appeal to me and hopefully to you.
